ESPN’s SportsCenter is the most-watched sports show in Japan, but not everyone is seeing the same success.
ESPN says the network will continue to cover the sport in Japan despite a decline in viewers.
“We will continue covering the sport, and the sport is still getting better every year,” said ESPN COO Jeff DiBlasio during an interview with ESPN Japan’s Sports Show in Tokyo.
DiBlasi said the network is confident it will keep its audience growing and that it is a strong contender for the Japanese market.
“I think our ratings will continue increasing and the Japanese are going to love watching sports, but we will continue doing that in Japan,” DiBlaso said.
Diblasio said the new technology will help bring more sports into the homes of Japanese fans, and he said it is likely that ESPN will be able to show more than one sport at a time for the first time in the future.
“It will be much easier to reach those people.
That’s why it’s important for us to get the technology right,” Diblasi said.
“The Japanese have always had the right to watch the Olympics, so we’re going to be looking for ways to make that possible in Japan.”
